Our TV movie pick for tonight (Wednesday, 20 August) is Sudden Impact, the 1983 action thriller sequel directed by and starring Oscar-winner Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven).
The fourth film in the Dirty Harry franchise, the follow-up sees Eastwood reprising his role as Inspector 'Dirty' Harry Callahan, a tough anti-hero cop working in San Francisco.
After his unconventional and often brutal crime-fighting tactics cause controversy, the policeman is sent on vacation to the sea side town of San Paulo in California.
There, however, Callahan forms a connection with Jennifer (Sondra Locke - The Gauntlet, The Outlaw Josey Wales), a young woman seeking revenge against the gang that attacked her and her sister years previously.
Like all of the Dirty Harry movies, Sudden Impact is action-packed and gripping. That said, it is notable in the franchise for two particular reasons.
One: it is the only entry in the five-film series to be directed by Eastwood himself.
Two: it features one of the most famous action movie lines ever, which is often misattributed to the original Dirty Harry.
This is the line: 'Go ahead, make my day,' which Callahan says to two different criminals he becomes engaged in a standoff with.
Sudden Impact is airing on TV tonight on ITV4 at 9pm. It is also available to rent on Apple TV, Google Play, Rakuten TV and the Sky Store.
