Suits has seen renewed popularity since it was added to US Netflix last summer.
Fans of hit series Suits should welcome the news that its creator, Aaron Korsh, is reportedly developing a new show set in the same world as the legal drama.
Suits aired from 2011 to 2019 for nine seasons, seven of which featured Meghan Markle as part of its main cast playing the role of paralegal Rachel Zane.
Over the past summer, the series saw a massive and surprise bump in popularity after being added to Netflix in the United States.
Following on from this success, it is now being reported that the Suits creator is in the process of developing a new show that would take place in the same universe as its predecessor, but would not serve as a revival, reboot or spinoff.
Instead, Deadline compares the potential project to the way shows in the CSI and NCIS franchises feature different characters in different locations.
Creator of Suits is reportedly developing new show in the ‘same universe’
According to the outlet, Los Angeles is being considered as a setting for the new show, in contrast to the original’s New York City.
The Deadline report comes amid rumours that Suits was headed for a reboot, with a throwback posted by its star, Patrick J. Adams, adding more speculation that it would be making a welcome comeback.
“Let’s get serious. Seriously. I miss my friends. Each and every one of them,” he captioned the post that included unseen photos of Markle, as well as other cast members.
Adams’ character, Mike – a lawyer with an eidetic memory – fell in love with and eventually married Rachel, who was played by the Duchess of Sussex.
Over the summer, the hit legal drama spent twelve straight weeks as the most streamed television series in the United States, according to Nielsen data, which counts the total minutes viewed across television and streaming platforms.
All 134 episodes from the nine seasons of Suits are available to watch on Netflix in Ireland right now.
