Susan Sarandon has had a serious go at Woody Allen at the Cannes Film Festival

Carl Kinsella

Woody Allen’s films are among the most popular in the history of cinema.

His writing, directing and acting is beloved by many the world over. However, his achievements in the movie industry are dwarfed by the magnitude of crimes he stands accused of by Dylan Farrow, his daughter with Mia Farrow.

Allen is accused of sexually abusing Farrow over the course of her childhood. Allen has never been convicted of the crime, though relatives of Farrow have vociferously argued both sides of the toss.

Her mother Mia and brother Ronan, who is a journalist insist that Allen is guilty. Dylan’s other brother, Moses, refutes the claims – as does Allen himself.

Figures in Hollywood largely remain reticent about the accusations, and most actors jump at the chance to star in his films.

Susan Sarandon, something of a Hollywood icon herself, has broken this pattern of silence and spoke out against the 80-year-old when asked about him at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. According to Jezebel, the actress lambasted him, saying:

“I have nothing good to say about Woody Allen, so I don’t think we should go there. I think he sexually assaulted a child and I don’t think that’s right … It’s gotten very quiet in here, but that’s true.”
