A delightful 2025 action comedy is now available to stream at home

Our first of three recommendations is for The Bad Guys 2, the delightful 2025 action comedy that has just been added to streaming.

Accessible through the service NOW, the animated movie is the follow-up to the 2022 hit film The Bad Guys. Both are loosely based on the New York Times best-selling book series by Aaron Blabey, which is set in a world where humans and anthropomorphic animals co-exist.

The main character of the movies and books is Mr Wolf (voiced by Oscar-winner Sam Rockwell), a master pickpocket and the leader of a gang of thieves called The Bad Guys.

In the first film, the crew - which also includes Mr Piranha (Anthony Ramos), Mr Shark (Craig Robinson), Mr Snake (Marc Maron), Ms Tarantula (Awkwafina) - was caught after one of their heists. As such, they attempted their most challenging con yet: convincing the authorities and the public that they had changed their ways and become model citizens.

While pretending to be reformed, however, Mr Wolf began to realise that doing good for real gave him what he had always secretly longed for: acceptance.

The Bad Guys 2, meanwhile, sees the gang continuing to try to rehabilitate their image, even as the public still doubts their sincerity.

Their efforts to be genuinely good are challenged, however, as they find themselves strong-armed into participating in a new "high-stakes, globe-trotting" heist by a new team of criminals: The Bad Girls (voiced by Danielle Brooks, Maria Bakalova and Natasha Lyonne).

The Bad Guys 2 is one of those rare animated family movies that could appeal to children and adults equally, making it a perfect watch for the whole family.

We can't imagine kids not enjoying the film's colourful and vibrant animation, its genuinely thrilling action set-pieces, its adorable animal protagonists, its slapstick humour, and its funny voice cast, which also includes Alex Borstein, Richard Ayoade and Zazie Beetz.

That said, the movie's full of PG homages to more adult action and crime thrillers like Mission: Impossible, Ocean's Eleven, The Silence of the Lambs and True Romance, something which older viewers should get a kick out of as well.

Plus, the whole story is underpinned by great messages, including how there is more to people than meets the eye and that life is better when you lead with kindness.
