Netflix has added one of the funnest action movies of recent years

Upon release, the film earned comparisons to the modern cult classic The Nice Guys.

A reboot of the 1980s TV series of the same name, the film sees the Oscar-nominee play Colt Seavers, the long-time stuntman for the widely beloved, though secretly incredibly irritating, Hollywood star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 28 Years Later).

Working on Tom's latest blockbuster, the stuntman is also part of a passionate romance with the picture's camera operator, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt, Sicario).

After suffering a severe injury on set, however, Colt leaves stunt work behind, blaming himself for the accident. On top of this, he turns his back on Jody.

Cut to 18 months later, and Tom's frequent producer (Hannah Waddingham, Ted Lasso) begs Colt to travel to Australia, where Jody is fulfilling her lifelong dream of directing a movie, starring Tom.

The leading man has gone missing, however, and given how intimately his former stuntman knows him, Colt is tasked with locating the actor. Seeing this as a way to reconnect with Jody, Colt accepts the mission.

The Fall Guy earned glowing reviews upon release, including from us here at JOE.

In particular, we praised the movie for its funny meta screenplay, which lovingly pays tribute to stuntmen, and the palpable romantic chemistry between its stars Blunt and Gosling.

On top of this, we called the movie "The Nice Guys sequel we’ll probably never get", due to its many similarities to Gosling's earlier beloved action comedy.

The Fall Guy also features the actor in silly mode as an unconventional, bumbling detective trying to work out a mystery with ties to the film industry.
