With Halloween just around the corner, now is the time to watch.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Friday, 16 October) is The First Omen, the 2024 prequel to the classic 1970s horror The Omen.

Directed by Arkasha Stevenson (Brand New Cherry Flavor, Channel Zero) in her feature film debut, the story is also set in the '70s. It follows Margaret (played by Nell Tiger Free, Servant), a young American woman sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church.

In the Italian capital, however, she encounters "a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate".

Also featuring in its cast Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Ralph Ineson (The Witch) and Sônia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), The First Omen begins as a stylish, intoxicating, dreamlike evocation of its time and place before it gets very, very scary. This is that rare horror reboot which is as good as the original, if not better.

Holding an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score, The First Omen is on TV tonight on Film4 at 9.30pm. It's also streaming on Disney+.

On top of this, you can watch the movie for free on Channel 4's website after it airs on television.
