One of our favourite Irish comedies of all time will finally come out on DVD here in Ireland this coming Friday (July 26) and Eddie, Buzz & The Viper were out in their trusty campervan recently to help promote the release.

The Hardy Bucks boys Eddie Durkan (Martin Maloney), The Viper (Chris Tordoff) and Buzz O’Donnell (Owen Colgan) recently met at Fitzwilliam Square, along with their now famous campervan and Irish jerseys, to launch the release of The Hardy Bucks Movie on DVD.

The Hardy Bucks Movie was the highest grossing new release in Ireland, enjoying the seventh biggest opening weekend of all-time for an Irish comedy at the Irish box office.  The film has since joined In Bruges in the Top Ten Greatest Irish Comedies of all-time, an extraordinary feat and first for a film that began life as a series on YouTube.

The movie is written, produced and directed by Mike Cockayne and stars home-grown comedians Martin Maloney as Eddie, Chris Tordoff as The Viper, Owen Colgan as Buzz O’Donnell, Peter Cassidy as Frenchtoast O’Toole and Tom Kilgallon as The Boo as they embark on a road trip across Europe to see their beloved republic of Ireland play in the Euros in Poland.

The Hardy Bucks kicked things off in 2009 with a series of ‘webisiodes’ on YouTube about the misadventures of Eddie, Buzz, Frenchtoast and The Boo in their small west-Ireland village called Castletown (which is actually Swinford in Mayo).

After winning an online competition run by RTÉ, the show written by Maloney, Tordoff, and Cockayne became an internet sensation, amassing over 7 million hits on YouTube since its launch. This led to a TV deal with RTÉ.

The Hardy Bucks Movie, distributed by Universal Pictures (UK), will be available for DVD rental and purchase from this Friday (26th July) in all good DVD stores nationwide.
