John Wick 3 director says The Matrix 4 is happening

The Matrix 4

We’re beginning to believe.

Here we are, getting all hyped up for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (out next week!) and an even bigger Keanu Reeves-related story explodes from out of nowhere.

JW director Chad Stahelski has only gone and given Matrix fans an early Christmas present by claiming that not only is a long-rumoured fourth Matrix movie in the works, but that Lilly and Lana Wachowski are on board, too.

In conversation with Yahoo, Stahelski, who worked on the original trilogy as Keanu Reeves’ stunt double and a stunt coordinator, talked a pretty big game.

“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved,” he said.

“And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’, and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”

Having dropped this information fairly casually into the conversation, Stahelski was asked for some pertinent follow-up details, such as whether or not both Wachowskis are directing the film.

“I’m not sure of the overall,” he said. “I’m not sure if Lana is.”

Stahelski did confirm that both are “involved” and that he’s willing to park any current project in order to rejoin the team.

Reeves has previously stated, adamantly, that the only way he will reprise the role of Neo is if the Wachowskis write and direct.

Exciting times, and let’s be honest, we need a better conclusion than Revolutions.

Incidentally, that same Yahoo write-up calls John Wick 3 “probably the best American action movie since The Matrix”, so yeah, hype levels are intensifying.
