The Matrix 4

Time to plug back in.

Rumours of a fourth Matrix film have abounded for years now, with the latest coming during the press cycle for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

Back in May, Wick director Chad Stahelski – who worked on the original trilogy as Keanu Reeves’ stunt double and a stunt coordinator – casually said that Matrix 4 was a go, and now, a few months later, it appears to be the case.

Variety, generally pretty solid when it comes to insider Hollywood information, has the exclusive scoop, stating that Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct a fourth Matrix.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are also on board, reprising their roles of Neo and Trinity, respectively.

That’s despite both of them dying in Revolutions. Spoilers for a 16-year-old movie, there.

According to Variety, this film will be “set in the world of The Matrix”, which could really mean anything.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Wachowski said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” added Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman.

“Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in the Matrix universe.”

Wachowski penned the script alongside Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

No release date as of yet, but yes, get hype.
