Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 5 May) is The Monuments Men, the 2014 war drama heist film co-written and directed by George Clooney (Good Night and Good Luck).
Based on true events, the movie follows seven over-the-hill, out-of-shape museum directors, artists, architects, curators, and art historians who travel to the front lines of World War II.
This is in a bid to rescue the world’s artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their rightful owners.
Clooney also stars in the film, alongside an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and Cate Blanchett.
The Monuments Men earned mixed reviews from critics upon release, with some arguing that it failed to strike a consistent tone between a harrowing war drama and a lighter heist caper.
That said, the gorgeous period decor and the cast of stars make it still worth seeking out.
The movie is airing tonight on Film4 at 6.45pm.
