The White Lotus, one of the best shows of the decade, is back with its third season on NOW and Sky.
For those not aware, the anthology comedy-drama with thriller elements revolves around the titular fictional resort hotel chain - with each season following the guests and staff at a different White Lotus location worldwide.
An opening flash-forward scene of every season reveals that an unidentified character has died. This is before the series goes back in time one week, slowly building up to the circumstances of the killing over several episodes.
Previous seasons were set in Hawaii and Sicily, with the third season now taking place in Thailand.
The impressive ensemble cast of the new batch of new episodes includes Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Christian Friedel, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Charlotte Le Bon, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Lek Petravadi, Parker Posey. Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong and Aimee Lou Wood.
Also, actress Natasha Rothwell reprises her role as the kindly spa manager Belinda, from the first season.
Having seen three out of eight episodes, JOE feels confident in saying that The White Lotus season three is on par with - and in some respects, even better - than what came before.
Creator, writer and director Mike White provides viewers with another great mystery and another sorting of compelling and complex characters who create comedy and chaos in equal measure as they spark off against each other.
That said, season three's focus on existentialism and spirituality and the way White shoots his new Thailand location - capturing the idyllic setting in all its glory, while also creating a sense of woozy unease with his framing and camera work - feel like steps forward for the series.
Holding a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, you can read some other glowing reviews for The White Lotus season three right here:
Daily Telegraph (UK): "Put creator Mike White’s barbed zingers in the mouths of performers as brilliant as Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Carrie Coon, Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins and you have an embarrassment of riches."
Empire: "A grandiose new chapter, White’s jamboree of misery plays to the strengths of its predecessors while still keeping things fresh and interesting."
Financial Times: "White ensures that every expectation is met. Those accustomed to its style, subtlety and commitment to delivering moments of intense discomfort will not be disappointed."
RogerEbert.com: "White’s ear for dialogue and gift with character depth—everyone in this show feels like they have a back story, down to the smallest role—are sharper than ever in what might be my favorite season yet."
San Jose Mercury News: "Be prepared to get your jaw dropped and your raised eyebrows torched right off."
The first episode of The White Lotus season three is now available to watch on NOW Entertainment and Sky Atlantic in Ireland and the UK - which you can access via your Amazon Fire Stick - with the rest of the eight-episode season dropping weekly on Mondays.
Its first two seasons are also available to catch up with via NOW Entertainment and Sky.
