There’s set to be a big change in the relationship between Star Wars and Skellig Michael

Carl Kinsella

We’re a bit disappointed.

Last year wasn’t exactly a long time ago and Skellig Michael is certainly not in a galaxy far, far away but it seems like Star Wars’ association with our islands is officially in the past.

A post on Star Wars fan-website makingstarwars.net suggests that the Skellig Michael location has been recreated in Pinewood Studios, England in order to avoid the nuisances of migrating birds and other environmental hazards that come with shooting in Kerry.

Jason Ward, who is in charge of makingstarwars.net, writes:

The Skellig Michael sets have been built and in some cases recreated at Pinewood. The location of the set at Pinewood is the same place they filmed the Jakku village scenes for The Force Awakens. Filming at Skellig Michael was just too complicated for environmental reasons. Migrating birds have more power than any corporation over that isle.

We have to say that we’re sorry we won’t a chance to see the rest of cast hanging out in Kerry bars and pulling pints like Mark Hamill did during his visits to Ireland last year.
