These were the 20 programmes with the highest audience figures on Irish TV in 2015

We’ve never been as spoiled for choice when it comes to options on the tellybox, but Irish people still appear to prefer traditional channels when it comes to getting their TV fix. Figures released today revealed the 20 programmes with the highest audience figures on Irish television in 2015 and all of those 20 programmes were broadcast on RTE One, RTE Two and TV3. It will come as absolutely no surprise that The Late Late Toy Show finished top of the pile with over 1.5 million people tuning in (an audience share of 72.10%), beating off competition from four sporting broadcasts – Ireland’s Rugby World Cup clashes against France (2), Argentina (3) and Italy (4) and the All-Ireland Final between Dublin and Kerry (5). The Irish soccer team’s meetings with Bosnia (7) and Poland (8) also made the top ten, while from an entertainment perspective, Charlie (6) and Mrs. Brown’s Boys: Mammy’s Widow’s Memories (9) were the most-watched programmes of the last 12 months. A 15^th place ranking for the Late Late Country Music special shows just how popular the genre is in Ireland right now, while Leo Varadkar’s interview on RTE News on January 18, when he spoke publicly for the first time about being gay, ranked in 14^th place.
