“It was inelegantly expressed”

Tom Hiddleston raised a few eyebrows during his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes.

After winning the accolade of Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Miniseries or Movie for his work on The Night Manager, Hiddleston used his acceptance to tell a story about some of the aid work that he was involved with in Sudan.

He intended to pay tribute to those that work with UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and the World Food Programme, but ended up praising himself.

Here is his speech:

The speech received a fair amount backlash, so much so, that he issued an apology. The actor said that his nerves got the better of him and that his words didn’t come out right.

“I just wanted to say… I completely agree that my speech at the Golden Globes last night was inelegantly expressed. In truth, I was very nervous, and my words just came out wrong”, he said.

“Sincerely, my only intention was to salute the incredible bravery and courage of the men and women who work so tirelessly for UNICEF UK, Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and World Food Programme, and the children of South Sudan, who continue to find hope and joy in the most difficult conditions. I apologise that my nerves got the better of me”, he added.
