The wait is over.

The final season of Top Boy, one of the best reviewed crime dramas of recent years, has just dropped on Netflix.

Created by Ronan Bennett (Face, Public Enemies), the show follows the trials and tribulations of drug dealers Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson) in Hackney in London.

Top Boy initially premiered in 2011 on Channel 4 where it ran for two seasons. After being dropped by the network in 2014, it was later revived by Netflix with the help of rapper Drake, with two more seasons being released in 2019 and 2022.

Though the new season of Top Boy will technically be its fifth, Netflix is calling it the third. This is because the streamer refers to the first two Channel 4 seasons of the show under the different series title Top Boy: Summerhouse.

As for the final season, if the reviews are anything to go by, Top Boy is going out with a bang.

The synopsis for the six last episodes reads:

“Sully’s actions at the end of the last series have rewritten his business rules with Dushane.

“As new shared problems arise, everything they’ve built comes under threat from forces outside and within their empire.

“Can they coexist by the rules of the road they’ve lived by their whole lives in a world that is changing before them? Or can there only be one Top Boy?”

Top Boy final season reviews

You can check out a sample of some of the reviews for Top Boy’s final season right here:

Digital Spy: “Though a noticeably shorter series than its previous ones, the show’s more streamlined approach doesn’t cheat fans of a brilliant conclusion. The condensed season concentrates events and makes the decisions, impulses and action feel more urgent.”

The Evening Standard: “A trump card is the addition of guest stars Barry Keoghan, Oscar nominated for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Brian Gleeson as Irish gangsters muscling in on Sully’s drug operation.”

The Guardian: “In the final episode, Top Boy serves its audience all the chaos, violence and scope its long-gestating tensions have promised.”

Also back for the last season is series cast members Araloyin Oshunremi, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking and Simbi Ajikawo.

Joining them as new additions, meanwhile, are Irish actors Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin, The Batman) and Brian Gleeson (Bad Sisters, Peaky Blinders) who will be playing the new characters of Jonny and Tadgh.
