#TRAILERCHEST: Alicia Vikander is the new, kick-ass Lara Croft in the latest trailer for Tomb Raider

Rory Cashin

“You messed with the wrong family.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Tomb Raider.

Plot’s it all about?

Skewing closer to the recent reboot in the games series, rather than the “Why are there robots in this?” Angelina Jolie adaptations, this new trailer gives a new look into the birth of the character of Lara Croft, and how she will go on to become the greatest raider of tombs this side of Indiana Jones.

Oscar-winner Vikander looks pretty kick-ass in the lead role, throwing herself into all kinds of danger in set-piece after set-piece, as she follows in the footsteps of her dead father (West), which eventually brings her to a majestic and dangerous island, populated by dangerous men (headed by Goggins) who have spent years looking for the same treasure that brought Lara to these shores.

The action looks vicious and realistic, the actors involved are all fantastic, and really the only problem we have with this trailer is that weird, creepy version of Destiny’s Child’s track ‘Survivor’ playing over proceedings.

We get they wanted to push the GURL POWER aspect of the movie, but we can’t get on board with creepy versions of Destiny’s Child classics.

Starring: Alicia Vikander, Kristin Scott Thomas, Walton Goggins, Nick Frost, Dominic West, Daniel Wu.

Directed by: Roar Uthauh (The Wave)

Irish release date: 16 March

Enjoy!
