Lisbeth Salander is back…

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

You might remember The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, be it the book, the original Swedish film adaptation or the excellent David Fincher effort from 2011.

The American version paired Daniel Craig with Rooney Mara, and ended on a sad and ambiguous note as Mara’s tortured hacker Lisbeth Salander stole into the night on her motorcycle after getting her heart broken.

Sounds like a screwball romantic comedy but TGWTDT was anything but; dealing in very adult fare as part of a wider mystery thriller that Fincher did a great job of bringing to the big screen, considering that the late Stieg Larsson’s original text is a bit ‘airport novel’ when you really break it down.

Those looking for a direct sequel – that would be The Girl Who Played With Fire, which features a villain who can’t feel pain – had hopes dashed when Craig and Fincher expressed little desire to return, while Mara seemed on the fence.

Jump forward to 2018 and fans of the Millennium series are finally getting a fresh adventure, with a brand new director and cast tackling the fourth book from the franchise – The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

Plot’s it all about?

Web sees Salander and journalist pal/lover Mikael Blomkvist once again caught in a, er, web of corruption and evildoers as they attempt to bring justice to those in need.

Meanwhile, a ghost from Salander’s past crops up to bring the requisite trauma.

Honestly, that’s all you really need to know.

Starring: Claire Foy, Sylvia Hoeks, LaKeith Stanfield, Stephen Merchant and Cameron Britton.

Directed by: Fede Álvarez, who previously helmed the Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe.

Irish release date: 9 November 2018

Enjoy…
