#TRAILERCHEST: The Lion King remake confirmed for release this summer with awesome new trailer

Marc Mayo

It’s the circle of life.

There may well be a tonne of movie remakes being thrown at us these days, but The Lion King’s live-action re-telling is one we can truly get behind, and it’ll be in cinemas in just a few months.

Well, it’s only live action in some senses, but it promises to be a genuinely different spectacle to the 1994 animated film and a new trailer, below, shows exactly what we’re in for.

Coming out on July 19, 2019, The Lion King has an all-star cast featuring Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. The director is the man behind Iron Man, Elf and the 2016 Jungle Book remake, Jon Favreau.

Some fans have argued that the new clip doesn’t quite show us anything we haven’t seen before, with Disney perhaps just getting in on the Oscars hype to remind us all what they’ve got coming up for the year ahead.

And 2019 looks set to be the year of the live-action remake from the studio, with Dumbo and Aladdin coming out on March 29 and May 24 respectively. Also on Disney’s release schedule is Toy Story 4, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: Episode IX – which has just finished filming – and Frozen 2.

So, a quiet year, all said and done.
