Michael Bay is not involved.

Good news for Transformers fans, particularly those who prefer their Autobots and Decepticons to be less live action; Netflix is creating a brand new origins-themed animated series.

The streaming giant has partnered with Rooster Teeth Productions to bring the  War For Cybertron trilogy to the platform in 2020, promising a brand new animation look and style that will present the Transformers “like you’ve never seen them before.”

There’s even a shiny logo to go along with the announcement:

Polygon Pictures will serve as the animation studio, with FJ DeSanto on board as showrunner, having previously worked on Transformers: Titans Return and Transformers: Power of the Primes.

“In this Transformers origin story, we will explore the expansive universe of Cybertron in a way that audiences have never seen before – to the delight of both existing fans and those coming to the franchise for the first time,” said John Derderian, Director of Anime for Netflix.

“The Transformers brand is a global phenomenon and we are thrilled to partner with Hasbro, Rooster Teeth and Polygon to bring this exciting new anime series to our members around the world on Netflix.”

No word on casting but you can probably rule Mark Wahlberg out for this one.
