It seems that we’re living in the golden age of TV right now because there’s so many good shows available.

It’s very likely that your friends have told you that ‘this series is great’ and ‘you have to watch this’ which is why we’ve decided to take a look at some of the best TV shows out there. This week, it’s the incredible True Detective.

1) What’s it about? : It’s rare that a debut season of any show inspires such an incredible cult-devotion but Nic Pizzolatto’s genre defying behemoth was that rare beast.

Not to sound too pretentious but True Detective unfolded like a cracking novel that drew you in, kept you hooked and refused to let your attention wane.

The brilliance of the debut season is that there’s a creeping menace that lies in every single frame while the characters, played by Woody Harrelson and Mattehw McConaughey, are so fully-rounded, flawed and captivating that you would think that they’re actual police officers.

The acting is superb but none of this matters if the case is an easy one to shut-and-close. Far from it.

True Detective is murkier, darker and more dangerous than the thickest Louisiana swamp.

2) It’s almost like : The Wire if it had the religious tones of The Omen and the sheer sense of southern dread that’s in Deliverance.

3) It’s worth your time because: The next season is set to start very soon and you really shouldn’t miss out on one of the greatest TV shows to be broadcast in recent years.

The Colin Farrell starring season 2 has so much to live up to but we’re quietly confident of what we’ve seen so far.

It’s hard to talk about the debut season because I don’t want to reveal any spoilers but if you like murder-mystery, incredibly complex characters, wonderful cinematography, blues music and great acting then this is for you.

The reveal of the killer actually gave me goosebumps.

True Detective Death

4) Did you know? : McConaughey read the script and instantly decided that he wanted to play the part of Rust Cohle. He signed on to star in the show even before HBO had bought the rights.

5) One episode and you’re hooked : All True Detective fans will know how incredible a particular episode is with just these two words, tracking shot.

Episode 4. Cohle goes into the projects in 1995. What follows next is arguably the greatest piece of TV that has ever been filmed.

6) If the show was a person then : It would be that person in your neighbourhood that everyone warns you to stay away from but they never quite say why.

There’s a mystery that’s right on your doorstep but because you think you know something about them, it scratches away at your brain and forces you to delve deeper.

Sometimes, it’s best to let things lie because you never know what you might find.
