The best video game movie yet (??) and 6 more movies and shows to watch this week

Rory Cashin

Jennifer Lopez, Mark Wahlberg, Charlie Day and Josh Hartnett all feature in this week’s big new releases!

Unlike most weeks, there are quite a few big screen releases vying for your attention. It’ll depend on whether you’re in the mood for big action, big murder mysteries or big romance.

Here are the new cinema releases, which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 11 February.

UNCHARTED

Based on the hit video games series, this modern-day take on an Indiana Jones-esque adventurer sees director Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland) pair up Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg to track down one of the most valuable undiscovered treasures of all time.

We chatted to the movie’s stars, including Tom Holland (here), Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Ali (here), as well as Mark Wahlberg, and you can check out that interview in full right here:

DEATH ON THE NILE

Kenneth Branagh’s follow-up to 2017’s surprise hit adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express puts another impressive cast – including Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders and Letitia Wright – in another unique location (a cruise ship travelling down the Nile) and attempts to deduce which of them is guilty of murder.

MARRY ME

Jennifer Lopez headlines this romantic comedy (released just a few days before Valentine’s Day, clever clever!) about a hopelessly romantic superstar who discovers, moments before her very public marriage, that her fiancé has been cheating on her. So in a moment of blind panic, she picks a fan (Owen Wilson) from the crowd and marries him instead.

And now on to the new stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

THE FEAR INDEX

Josh Hartnett headlines this tense four-part thriller mini-series about a stock broker who makes a fortune during times of imbalance and fear around the world, but finds his personal life turned upside following a shocking home invasion.

All episodes are available to watch on NOW right now.

THE KING’S MAN

Yes, this WWI-set spy thriller prequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service was released in cinemas just a few short weeks ago, but if you missed it on the big screen – and chances are, considering the 8pm curfew, you probably did miss it – then you can check it out at home. Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans and more feature.

The King’s Man is on Disney+ right now.

I WANT YOU BACK

Charlie Day and Jenny Slate are dumped by their respective partners (Gina Rodriguez and Scott Eastwood), so they decide to team up together in order to break their exes up with their new beaus.

I Want You Back arrives on Prime Video on Friday, 11 February.

SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY

If you loved the original, you’ll probably love this one too. If you didn’t, chances are the younger members of your family will, with LeBron James dragged into the digital world and forced to team up with some of the Looney Tunes in order to escape.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is available to watch on NOW from Friday, 11 February.
