Ah here RTE, we’ve just about recovered from the send-off to Billo on Sunday night.
The World Cup Final wasn’t at all bad, but the highlight of Sunday night’s coverage for many was the lovely tribute paid to Bill O’Herlihy on his final day in RTE after five decades with the state broadcaster.
There were a lot of viewers trying to hold back the tears as they watched tributes from colleagues like Dunphy, Giles, Brady, Katie Taylor and Billo’s own grandchildren and you’ll soon be cursing the presence of those damn onions again as RTE have released a look-back at O’Herlihy’s last day in Montrose.
Everything from Bill combing his hair, having his make-up applied, catching a glimpse of the Munster Hurling Final and mixing with colleagues at a special reception afterwards is covered here, while there are more tributes from the likes of Brian Kerr, John Delaney and Des Cahill.
Keep an eye out for a slightly cringe-worthy cameo from Peter Collins right at the end, but even that can’t spoil this.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, but a legend like Bill will be sorely missed.
