Tomorrow marks the release of the The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and, ahead of this momentous occasion, footage has been released of Christian Bale’s audition for the iconic role.
It’s a fascinating clip, revealing that Bale was in fact the bat brains behind the hero’s now legendary growl and, bizarrely, the actor wore Val Kilmer’s Batsuit throughout the audition process.
Let’s just hope Kilmer had taken it to Alfred's Bat-laundrette for a wee wash before passing the Bat-on.
In a brilliantly prophetic coincidence, the best reveal is that Amy Adams AKA Man of Steel's Lois Lane read Katie Holmes’ lines opposite Bale, over ten years before she’s due to star opposite Ben Affleck’s incarnation in Batman vs. Superman in 2015.
