Video: Check out the funkin’ great ’70s trailer for American Hustle

Oscar season here we come...

Eoghan Doherty

Here at JOE we like the look of American Hustle. We like the look of it a lot.

As film fans well know, Autumn marks the time that Hollywood’s heavy hitters release their trailers ahead of the ineveitable frenzied madness that is the New Year awards season and with the trailer for American Hustle, we’ve got an absolute cracker on our hands.

The film is directed by the always impressive David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook) and is based on the 1970/80s FBI sting operation known as ABSCAM, in which Special Agents, politicians and con artists worked together as part of an investigation resulting in multiple arrests in the New Jersey underworld.

The best thing about the trailer though is its all-star cast of Russell favourites.

Look! It’s Bradley Cooper with rollers in his hair!

Look! It’s Christian Bale with a huge pot belly!

Look! It’s Louis C. K. on ye olde telephone!

What’s not to love?

And of course it stars the talented, beautiful pairing of Oscar-nominated Amy Adams and Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawerence.

Trust us, everything is better when those two ladies are involved.

Check out the brilliant ELO soundtracked trailer as Russell expertly channels his inner Marty Scorsese:

American Hustle is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on 20 December 2013.
