If it’s anything like Linehan’s previous work, then Irish audiences are in for a treat.

If it’s anything like Linehan’s previous work, then Irish audiences are in for a treat.

When it comes to comedy, Graham Linehan can barely put a foot wrong as far as audiences here and in the UK are concerned, having been responsible for the likes of the IT Crowd and, of course, Father Ted, amongst other projects in the past.

His latest effort sees him return home to Dublin for ‘The Walshes’, a three-part sitcom about a warm, tight-knit family from the West Dublin suburb of Strollinstown that will first air on RTE on March 6.

The series was made by Linehan’s company production company Delightful Pictures, it will be screened on the BBC as well as RTE and will be based on the lives of a Dublin family all still living at home because of economic circumstances.

According to the RTE press release: “Tony (Niall Gaffney) and Carmel (Philippa Dunne) are parents to Ciara (Amy Stephenson) and Rory (Rory Connolly), who are both still at home because the state of the Irish economy has forced them all back together.

“Even Ciara’s new boyfriend Graham (Shane Langan) is forced to move in and family friend Martin (Owen Roe) always seems to be hanging around mending bits and pieces, as well as accidentally becoming trapped in the wall cavity.”

Such is Linehan’s reputation in the industry that expectations for the new series will be high, but as we said above, if it’s even a patch on some of the things he’s produced in the past then we imagine that the reception will be mainly positive amongst audiences at home and across the pond.
