We wonder what Groot would say if he found out that Darth Vader was his father?
In many ways, the superb Guardians of the Galaxy is very similar to the daddy of all sci-fi action adventure films, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Think about it, Han Solo is a devil-may-care scoundrel who smuggles cargo which isn’t too dissimilar from the wise-cracking thief Star-Lord. Groot is just like Chewbacca because they’re both incredibly strong and loyal yet totally indecipherable. All this before we even mention the plot.
The Guardians meet in a space prison not unlike the Star Destroyer where Luke Skywalker rescued Princess Leia and as for the evil weapons of mass destruction, well Ronan had a powerful orb that could destroy worlds. The Death Star, however, caused no damage at all.
Alderaan sympathisers shed a single tear.
Star Wars may have re-woken the force but Guardians of The Galaxy definitely stirred up movie lovers’ passion for nostalgic, funny and brilliant sci-fi adventure.
Both films are superb and this mash-up is wonderful. If only there was a way to combine the two…
