Video: Hozier talks cheese sandwiches and Taylor Swift on tonight’s Other Voices

Tonight's entire show is dedicated to the Wicklow singer

Tonight’s entire show is dedicated to the Wicklow singer.

Before you do anything else, set your recordable telly boxes to RTE2 at 10.50pm tonight…

You done? Good.

Other Voices gives over an entire show to Hozier, who heads to Dingle to talk about his meteoric rise through his stunning debut album, to talking about cheese sandwiches with Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

“There are all these things that happen and all of a sudden your name is next to somebody like Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran,” he says.

“Initially that is as surreal as anyone could think that that is because people who are such distant intangible icons become… you start chatting to them about mundane cheese sandwiches or something one day. I don’t know, they just become real immediately and you’re chatting to them.

“That’s very very strange to me and I felt very much, not only coming into the Irish music industry very much as an outsider because I wasn’t part of a ‘scene’ or anything like that, I kind of just came out of the attic one day with the songs but then coming into America as a total outsider, coming in to the music industry as an outsider but what I’m amazed about and encouraged by is that you know, this was a small operation.

“The music did start in the attic and it was a viral success and as you put it, it’s one of the first times that kind of thing can happen and what’s hopeful is that it can be done and if I can do it, anyone can do it, those channels exist now, you can get that music to people.

Here’s a short clip of tonight’s show…
