Video: Irish musician’s version of the Game of Thrones theme tune is quite something

A tune so good it wouldn’t sound out of place in King’s Landing itself… let’s just hope he could make it out alive afterwards.

A tune so good it wouldn’t sound out of place in King’s Landing itself… let’s just hope he could make it out alive afterwards.

Thanks to the vivid imagination of George R.R. Martin, a death count higher than Robocop and Terminator put together and frequent x-rated scenes that are slightly racier than what you’d call soft porn, the television adaptation of Game of Thrones has proved hugely popular in Ireland and beyond in recent years.

As such, the theme tune is instantly recognisable to the many fans of the show and you won’t hear many better versions of it than the one above by Paul Quinn, a musician based in Ennis in Clare, whose arrangement was yesterday given greater exposure on Twitter by actor Iwan Rheon, who plays Ramsay Bolton (the bastard of Bolton) in the show.

Quinn, who regularly posts his arrangements on his Facebook page and YouTube channel, has also gained plenty of kudos for his take on the theme tune from The Wire (Tom Waits’ ‘Way Down in the Hole’), which was recently shared on the show’s official Facebook page.

The man has certainly got talent and we look forward to Paul getting back to us with his take on the undisputed greatest TV theme tune from arguably the greatest TV show of all time…

Hat-tip to Paul Quinn himself for sending the videos our way
