The War of the Worlds trailer is finally here and it looks absolutely spectacular

War of the Worlds

The classic book is getting the big budget TV treatment. It looks excellent.

In terms of TV stations that have really upped their game in recent years, the BBC can proudly boast about some fantastic productions.

Line of Duty, Bodyguard, Peaky Blinders, Luther, and World On Fire – premiering tonight – all boast massive  production value as the Beeb have done their very best to go toe-to-toe with the likes of HBO, Netflix, and Amazon.

Well, with His Dark Materials, Dublin Murders, and A Christmas Carol also on their upcoming slate, it appears that viewers are going to be spoiled for choice over the upcoming months.

However, it’s arguable that one TV show has a bigger fan base than the others and that’s the upcoming version of H.G. Wells’ classic War of the Worlds starring Rafe Spall, Eleanor Tomlinson, Robert Carlyle and Rupert Graves.

The series, which filmed in Liverpool, was adapted by Peter Harness and directed by Craig Viveiros.

Unlike Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation which starred Tom Cruise, this version adheres to the book’s setting and follows a young couple’s race for survival against the escalating terror of an alien enemy that’s beyond their comprehension.

Having seen the trailer, we’re happy to say that the production values look great and there’s a real sense of dread and scale to the proceedings.

At present, no premiere date has been set but the BBC have confirmed that it will air in autumn.

Take a look at what’s in store.
