The show’s 18th season kicked off on Sunday night.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here returned to our TV screens over the weekend, and for anyone who needs a quick catch-up on the deets, you can head here, but the list of contestants this year are as follows:
- John Barrowman – Broadway star
- Nick Knowles – TV presenter
- Emily Atack – Charlotte from The Inbetweeners
- Malique Thompson-Dwyer – Actor
- Rita Simons – Actress
- Sair Khan – Actress
- James McVey – Singer
- Anne Hegerty – The lady from The Chase!!
- Fleur East – Singer
- Noel Edmonds – TV personality
- Harry Redknapp – Football manager
As they were split into two teams and sent to two separate camps, it soon became apparent that Anne Hegerty was having a very emotional reaction to arriving at the camp.
Just a few weeks ago, Hegerty had appeared on Loose Women where she had discussed her Asperger’s syndrome, a symptom of which can be having difficulty with any new changes in surroundings.
In the following clip, you can see Hegerty’s response to arriving at the camp, and contemplating quitting the show:

Once they realised that Anne was having a visibly difficult time to her new surroundings, her team quickly rallied around her, letting her know that she absolutely wasn’t alone.
The viewers at home also had an immediate response to Anne’s reaction, delivering a landswell of emotional support for her:
On a serious note though, hats off to Anne Hegerty for giving #ImACeleb a go, given the fact she’s on the autistic spectrum. The fact that’s being so brave in stepping outside of her comfort zone just makes me love her even more! 💛 pic.twitter.com/1KByN6Qklj

It does feel early to see tears, but Anne spoke about her Autism on Loose Women a few weeks ago and this really must be difficult for her. She said that she spends all of her free time alone and at home etc. I'm proud of her 🤷♀️ #ImACeleb

People tweeting about Anne being this years Gemma Collins, she is not a diva like Gemma. She has asperger's so here's just a little paragraph to explain why she may struggle more than most #ImACeleb pic.twitter.com/ghq6vHkH5m

However, one of the viewers did also point out the really obvious fact about having Anne on your team:
Whichever team has Anne Hegerty won’t need to worry about Kiosk Kev. She knows fucking everything. #ImACeleb
