WATCH: Netflix series The Irregulars set to put new spin on Sherlock Holmes

Stephen Porzio

The show promises a version of Sherlock Holmes “like never before”.

Not long after releasing their film Enola Holmes, Netflix are back with another riff on Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective with the supernatural drama series The Irregulars.

Set in Victorian London, the series follows a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes.

As the crimes grow more horrifying and a dark power emerges, it will be up to the Irregulars to come together to save not only London but the entire world.

Since we’ve already had TV shows and movies about a Holmes who was great at boxing, Holmes in the modern day, Holmes as an old man and Holmes’ sister, it was only a matter of time before we saw him face supernatural evils.

Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Killing Eve, The Inbetweeners) will play Holmes and will star alongside Royce Pierreson (The Witcher, Line of Duty) as Dr Watson and Clarke Peters (His Dark Materials, The Wire) as the mysteriously titled Linen Man.

Written and executive produced by Tom Bidwell (Watership Down, My Mad Fat Diary), the first season will comprise of eight episodes.

The Irregulars will hit the streaming service on 26 March.

Until then, check out the fun if surprisingly violent trailer below.
