‘Irish actors are at the top of the list’ – Zack Snyder on who he wants to work with next

EXCLUSIVE: The famed director has spoken about Rebel Moon's surprisingly strong Irish connection.

Hollywood director Zack Snyder has showered praise on Rebel Moon's Irish star Fra Fee and said that "Irish actors are at the top of the list" of who he wants to work with next.

Rebel Moon: Part Two - The Scargiver - the second part of the filmmaker's space opera - has just landed on Netflix and JOE had the opportunity to speak with the filmmaker, alongside his producing partner and wife Deborah Snyder, about the movie.

During the conversation, we noted to the the pair that their franchise has a surprisingly strong Irish connection - from Charlie Hunnam's Northern Irish accent in the first entry to Fra Fee's casting in both Part One and Two.

The latter plays Balisarius in the Rebel Moon films, the tyrant often seen in flashbacks and visions who instigates the events of the story.

Speaking about Fee, Deborah said: "Fra is just such an amazing actor and his work in the theatre, which he's been fitting in in between our filming and press, is just really incredible.

"Kristy Carlson, who is our casting agent, brought him up and we weren't aware of him and then she showed us a bunch of material. And then finally Zack you got a chance to actually meet him."

Zack than added: "Yeah I talked to him and he's just unbelievable and now that we've got him in the role of Balisarius, part of the reason why we cast him so young was because we thought as we went forward - and we still have this hope - that you could have more of the young Balisarius without having to de-age him or do some crazy thing.

"Because he is incredibly effective as the sort of 50-year-old Balisarius that we see with the grown Kora (Sofia Boutella) but he's also amazing to see as the young Balisarius out fighting among the stars as a young general."

We then had to ask if there were any actors the Snyders would love to work with that they hadn't yet - maybe even more Irish actors.

Zack said: "Always Irish actors, they're at the top of the list. But who do we want to work with that we haven't worked with? Well Ariana Grande, we know that, we always talk about her."

"We've never worked with Brad [Pitt]. I mean, there's such an amazing landscape."
