EXCLUSIVE: Zack Snyder gives his thoughts on the new Superman

Stephen Porzio

During a recent interview, JOE asked the Justice League director about the casting of the new Man of Steel in James Gunn’s upcoming blockbuster.

One of the most-anticipated upcoming movies is the 2025 blockbuster Superman, which will be written and directed by James Gunn (the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy).

The film is being shot right now and will see rising star David Corenswet (Hollywood, The Greatest Hits, Pearl) as the Man of Steel, opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

And it turns out famed filmmaker Zack Snyder – who directed Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League – is also excited to see Gunn’s take on the character.

JOE recently sat down with the Man of Steel director, as well as his producing partner and wife Deborah Snyder, to discuss their new Netflix space opera Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver.

You can check out JOE’s positive review of the sequel right here, which we called “more pacy and tighter” than its predecessor and “essentially The Magnificent Seven but set in a Star Wars-like universe.”

During our interview with the the Snyders, the pair discussed the casting of Irish actor Fra Fee as the villainous Balisarius in the Rebel Moon films and what other actors the pair would love to work with.

At the end of the chat, JOE also asked Zack if he had any thoughts on his friend Gunn’s casting of Corenswet as the Man of Steel in the upcoming superhero flick.

In response, he said: “Other than I’m excited to see what they do, I don’t really… I think he looks great. I can’t wait to see what those two do.”

You can watch Snyder make the comments right here. Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver is streaming on Netflix worldwide right now.

James Gunn’s Superman, meanwhile, will land in cinemas on 11 July 2025.
