Having successfully auditioned over Christmas, the Peaky Blinders star returns to the airwaves.
Ex-musician turned rather successful actor Cillian Murphy knows his tunes, as evidenced by
his recent turn on BBC 6 Music.
Back in December, Murphy hit up the popular station for a three-hour rundown of his favourite music, highlighting the likes of
Villagers, Julia Holter and others.
With Elbow frontman Guy Garvey set to take an extended break from his own show to work on his band's next album, there was only one man for the job.
And so Cillian Murphy on 6 Music will air on Sundays from 2-4pm from the beginning of next month until the summer, kicking off on 3 March.
"As a music lover, mixtape obsessive and long-time 6 Music fan I couldn’t be more chuffed to be asked to sit in for Guy on his hiatus," says the Cork native.
"His show has been a constant companion for me and my family on Sunday afternoons for many years now, and it will be an honour to pick the tunes in that slot for a while.
"6 Music is the best radio station in the world and I look forward to becoming a temporary houseguest!"
He says it's only temporary, but Garvey seems to know the potential threat lying in wait.
"Murphy is a bit too good actually, I’ve heard him before and he knows his onions," he notes.
"I obviously have to watch my back, but he’s nowhere near as good looking as me so I’ll win on that front."
