WATCH: Damien Rice played with his old Bell X1 bandmates at Vicar Street for the first time in 20 years

Michael Lanigan

One of Ireland’s great lost groups finally reformed for one special performance.

Attendees of the first show in Bell X1’s five-night residence at Vicar Street in Dublin were in for one mighty surprise as the band staged a major reunion midway through their set.

In celebration of their twentieth anniversary, the Kildare trio reformed the full line-up of their previous group Juniper by bringing onstage singer-songwriter Damien Rice and guitarist Brian Crosby.

While Crosby was formerly a member of Bell X1 until 2008, Rice had not shared a stage with the band since Juniper dissolved in 1998.

Performing a version of the track ‘Volcano’ they wrote together as Juniper, but which only appeared later on Bell X1’s  2000 debut album Neither Am I, and Rice’s iconic 2002 album, O, the moment had the crowd in raptures.
