Dannii Minogue fights back tears as she says she ‘identifies as queer’

The Australian singer announced the news on BBC’s The One Show.

Dannii Minogue has announced that she ‘identifies as queer’ during an emotional interview on yesterday evening’s edition of BBC’s The One Show.

The 52-year-old was on the programme to promote the BBC Three reality dating show I Kissed A Girl, in which she plays the role of matchmaker.

Minogue previously hosted a similar version of the show called I Kissed A Boy, which followed a group of 10 single guys as they searched for love in a gorgeous sunny location.

The ten episode series matched the boys up after, you guessed it, a kiss, as couples were formed based on what each person was looking for in a potential partner.

After their initial smooch, the new pairings embarked on a romantic journey that tested just how compatible they really were.

At the beginning of her appearance on last night’s The One Show, Minogue said: “I identify as queer in a weird way.

Referring to the programme, she went on: “This is so important. There hasn’t been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world.

“It’s like we need this to happen. I’m hoping that there are parties up and down the country.”

Fans have been congratulating Danni after she made the announcement, and sharing their excitement for the new show.

One user on Twitter wrote: “I am not ready!!!!” while another commented: “This looks even more fabulous fun than the boys!”

One other person posted: “YAS @danniiminogue we love you! represent! Congrats on the show & the single!”.

The All I Wanna Do singer was once married to actor Julian McMahon, after meeting on the set of Home and Away, but they divorced the following year.

Episodes one and two of I Kissed a Girl will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer on Sunday 5 May. Episodes will air on BBC Three every Sunday and Monday night at 9pm.
