Dave Grohl’s gesture to a terminally-ill fan provides further proof he’s the soundest man in music

Dave Grohl, sound man.

We don’t think we’ve ever heard a bad word uttered about Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, whose reputation as the nicest man in music seems fully deserved.

As if we needed further proof of just why he’s earned that moniker, he went and showed us all over again with a lovely gesture to a terminally-ill Foo Fighters fan from Australia.

The fan in question, Ken Powell, was diagnosed with melanoma cancer 14 years ago.

In 2009, the diagnosis was classified as stage 4 (terminal), but despite two major brain surgeries and radiation and trial treatments, Ken is still battling away.

A massive Foo Fighters fan, meeting the band has been on Ken’s bucket list for some time and he nearly ticked it off recently during their tour of Australia, but Dave was forced to cancel a meet and greet with fans because of food poisoning.

Thorough a huge stroke of luck, Ken’s friend Daniella Whitehead, a Qantas flight attendant, was looking after the Foos on their flight back to the States and told Dave of Ken’s story.

Dave gave a shout out to Ken with the picture below, organised some Foo Fighters souvenirs and invited him over to a gig in LA, with VIP passes.

When word got out that Ken was seeking to raise funds to make the trip, the Australian public responded in style, with Ken receiving over $20,000 via fundraising site GoFundMe in no time.

Ken is now seeking to up the donations to $30,000, with the remaining funds going towards the Melanoma Institute of Australia.

If you were looking for a feel-good story to set you up for the weekend then we can’t think of many better than this.

Faith in humanity restored.
