George Harrison Memorial Tree meets a rather ironic end as it’s killed by actual beetles

Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Help! You know I need a tree surgeon, Hellllllllllp!

Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Help! You know I need a tree surgeon. Hellllllllllp!

According to a story in the LA Times, a tree planted in a Los Angeles park in honour of former Beatle George Harrison has been killed by actual, literal beetles… yes, we are being serious.

The pine tree was planted in 2004 but was recently struck by the infestation of beetles that the park attendants could not quite stamp out.

Situated near Griffith Observatory, the tree was dedicated in memory of the now deceased Harrison, who was an avid gardener and lived in Los Angeles for the last years of his life. The tree was accompanied by a plaque reading: “In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.” It also had a quote from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green.”

The Los Angeles Times are reporting that the tree will be replaced soon and JOE knows that caretakers at the park will be working eight days a week to ensure that the replanting is successful. We also hope that, with some words of wisdom from botanists, the tree will survive any future attacks from the six-legged rascals.
