Ireland has not qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final

It's a shame since our song was pretty good.

Lesley Roy, Ireland's entry for this year's Eurovision, has not qualified for the finals of the singing competition.

Despite her song 'Maps' being a solid anthemic pop song and Roy giving a great performance in the first round of the semi-finals in Rotterdam, Ireland was one of the six countries out of 16 that did not make it to the next round.

Roy posted online after not qualifying: "I gave it my all for Ireland for the last 18+ months! I am so grateful for such an amazing team and creative staging. This Eurovision experience has been so memorable during such a historic time for everyone across the globe."

The 10 from the semi-final first round that will compete in the final on Saturday are Azerbaijan, Belgium, Cyprus, Israel, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine.

The second round of the Eurovision semi-finals will take place on Thursday night at 8pm and can be watched on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
