JOE’s new song of the day #422: Foo Fighters – ‘The Sky is a Neighbourhood’

JOE

The Foos go singing the blues.

Foo Fighters debuted new music on Tuesday night, which is set to be released on their new upcoming album.

Frontman, Dave Grohl, and drummer, Taylor Hawkins, were performing at the benefit show ‘Acoustic 4 A Cure IV’ in San Francisco with Wallflowers keyboardist Rami Jaffee, when they aired the sombre and blues-driven anthem.

“I figured on the way up here, I thought ‘fuck it let’s play a new song man’,” said Grohl introducing the track. “We’ve never played this song in front of anybody. It’s called ‘The Sky Is A Neighbourhood’.”

Grohl starts and ends the song by screaming the title into the microphone. The acoustic guitar seems a bit silent for the singing but the song is helped along by the simple but effective drumming of Hawkins, who also helps out with the lyrics towards the end.

In 2015, the band announced an infinite hiatus but have stayed in touch with the public domain since the break in music.

They filmed a mockumentary in 2016 following rumours that the band were permanently breaking up and have re-assured fans that a comeback would be happening, it was just a case of when.

The answer is now and Grohl has announced the band would spend much of 2017 recording their ninth studio album and would perform live shows across June and July.

Foo Fighters’ last five albums have all be in the top five of the Irish Album charts with, One by One, reaching number one in 2002.

Dave Grohl has directed the last seven of the band’s music videos and it would be nice to see what sort of angle who would take on this brand new song.
