JOE’s Song Of The Day #557: Marlene Enright – ‘Little Things’

Eric Lalor

Marlene

Marlene’s new song promises bigger things lie ahead.

Marlene Enright is a rebel with a cause. Hailing from the Rebel County (see what I did there?), she has just released this brand new song and it’s an absolute belter.

Taken from her highly-acclaimed debut album, ‘Placemats and Second Cuts’, this rounds off an astonishingly successful twelve months for Marlene. The album has been nominated for the Choice Music Irish Album of the Year. She will perform at Vicar Street at the awards ceremony along with the other nominees on March 8.

The song itself delves into the struggle to find one’s purpose and path in the humdrum of daily life.  Along the way realising that it’s the ‘little things’ that keep you awake at night. Enright expertly guides the listener along the by-roads of life and its spectrum of emotion in this groove-heavy, alternative pop gem.

The album is nearly a year old, but it’s an album worthy of the recognition she is getting. It’s a heady mix of the past and present,  modern roots, alt-folk, indie pop, dream pop, and R&B. It ably demonstrates Enright’s experience, style, passion and influences.

Of course, we’ve been aware that this lady was a special talent for a while now. We featured her song ‘Alchemy’ as our Song of the Day, way back in November 2016.
