“If I should fall from grace with God, where no doctor can relieve me.”
As many of you may know, The Libertines played a tumultuous reunion gig over the weekend at Hyde Park in London. There was, however, drama in the crowd as well as on stage.
A crowd member suffered a heart attack during The Pogues’ support set for the Pete Doherty-led band. Thankfully though, Andrew Plank is now recovering in hospital now but he is looking to find the audience member who helped save his life.
Plank suffered a heart attack during The Pogues’ set, but was saved by a stranger in the audience who performed CPR and alerted the paramedics. The band stopped their set to tell the crowd to let paramedics through and the 46-year-old was revived with a defibrillator. The band have also tweeted their support for the stricken fan.
The Pogues want to send out good wishes to the young man who had to be pulled from the crowd last night. Thinking of him & wishing him well.

Plank’s nephew-in-law, Lloyd Smith, told The Irish Post that the family has the stranger to thank for saving his life. “From what we’ve been told by the hospital, there was a stranger in the crowd who performed CPR for 10 minutes and it’s down to the fact that he performed CPR that we’ve still got my wife’s uncle. His heart stopped for those 10 minutes but thanks to this bloke the paramedics were able to revive him”, said Smith.
It’s good to see that Plank has maintained his sense of humour whilst in recovery. On waking, he did not remember collapsing, but was instead concerned for the whereabouts of his favourite Pogues T-shirt. “When he woke up, he asked where his T-shirt was and the paramedics had cut it off. It’s his favourite T-shirt and he was more angry about losing his favourite Pogues T-shirt than anything!” said Smith.
Following The Pogues’ performance, The Libertines’ set was also halted due to crushing in the crowd. According to reports, up to 30 people were left with minor injuries as a result of the squeeze, and ten were taken to hospital. An eventful concert to say the least, but this story made JOE happy to know that there are some genuine heroes out there. We applaud you mystery sir.
