A unique view of the capital, accompanied by a brilliant piece of music.
Somewhat unintentionally, Dermot Kennedy’s music has become an audio backdrop for the Covid-19 pandemic.
So much so, the former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar quoted one of his lyrics in an official briefing, stating that “some summer night”, we’ll see our friends again.
And in Kennedy’s latest video, we see him run through a deserted Dublin city in an alternative music video for his song ‘Giants’.
Directed by the brilliant Brendan Canty, the video also teases flashbacks of the city we once knew, before Covid-19 changed everything.
Speaking about the video, Kennedy said: “It felt so special to be given this unique view of Dublin City while it was at a standstill. Having spent the last few years travelling, often feeling very detached from home, this felt like the perfect way to reconnect with my roots.
“This video represents the longing I feel for playing music for people. I miss it so much, and I want this video to take you on a journey back to the way things were when we got to sing together. We will get there again.”
