“There was nearly a fatality.”
The Oasis hype might be dying down after the initial buzz of their reunion, but some past stories of the band’s shenanigans over the years are still being shared.
One such story that has made the rounds again recently is of Noel Gallagher claiming he “nearly died” following a drinking session with Pogues legend Shane MacGowan.
The Gallaghers have a big connection of Ireland, the birthplace of their mother, and so striking up a friendship with MacGowan is to be expected.
The brilliant story was told by Noel when he was a guest on the Late Late Show last year, which had former host Ryan Tubridy in stitches.
Noel Gallagher says he ‘nearly died’ on mad session with Shane MacGowan
“Alcohol had been taken on board and I was hanging, the worst I’d ever felt in my entire life,” began Noel. “Shane MacGowan was involved, right, one of those nights.
“And we’re trying to have the hair of the dog on the plane and all that and I got to the hotel in Paris and it was before the plane was landing that he says ‘I’ve got to go and see somebody but I’ll see you back at the hotel’.”
“And I was like, thank God he’s going. So he goes off in some big motorcade and I get back to the hotel and I’m dying to get to bed and I thought, well, I ordered some food.”
"I really love Oasis and I really like Noel and I like hanging out with him and I love their sense of humour"

Gallagher continued: “I was in a mess, like, properly in a mess. I had the shakes. And as I was waiting for my food to come I just turned on the telly. And there he is with the President of France! In front of the world’s press!
“And I’m like, what the… it’s just like, there was nearly a fatality, I nearly died and there he is discussing the monetary situation in somewhere with somebody.”
Shane was a big fan of Oasis, once saying: “I really love Oasis and I really like Noel and I like hanging out with him and I love their sense of humour”.
