What a weekend
The dust has settled on Electric Picnic 2018. All the empty cans are now all bagged up, each of the stages have been taken down, and tickets for 2019 are on sale from Friday, 6 September.
Taking a look back on what was an awesome way to wrap up the summer music festival season, we’ve come up with a list of our favourite Electric Picnic 2018 moments.
Hozier’s surprise appearance
There were rumours about the Wicklow native making an appearance, but that didn’t make it any less special when Hozier did land on stage during Mavis Staple’s set. The two of them nailed every note on their cover of The Weight.
Not only were those in attendance lucky enough to listen to a true music icon in Mavis Staple, they got to enjoy one of the most memorable moments of the weekend.
Versatile
We would advise you to watch this space, but the Dublin boys are moving so damn quick it’s hard to keep up. From growing a steady fan base on YouTube to a jaw-dropping performance at EP in front of thousands of people, it’s been an incredible journey for the rap duo.
The only shame here is that their set only lasted 45-minutes, and was so close to Kendrick Lamar’s set. One gets the feeling however that should they make a return next year, it’ll be on one of the bigger stages.
Johnny Logan
What a man. When we first heard the Eurovision legend would be performing at the festival, we knew we were in for something special.
Hearing the crowd sing along to Hold Me Now was reason enough to feel spending your weekend in Stradbally was the right choice.
Nile Rodgers & Chic
Sometimes you get the feeling when you’re at a concert that you’d rather be nowhere else on earth. Listening to Nile Rodgers bang out the classics was definitely one of those moments.
Even looking at the group of people on the stage was a treat. A group of exceptionally talented musicians clearly enjoying themselves as much as the crowd is the way it should be done.
The Banquet
The food at this year’s Banquet was incredible, and the fact that it was all in the name of charity made it even tastier. Over €30,000 raised over the weekend went to Pieta House and Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
It was a pleasant change of pace from the rest of the festival, with Derry Clarke and Clodagh McKenna serving up a delicious menu.
