People absolutely loved Sinéad O’Connor’s powerful version of Nothing Compares 2 U on the Late Late

Paul Moore

Sinéad O’Connor

A phenomenal voice. Great to see her doing well.

If you’re going to cover one of Shane MacGowan’s greatest ever songs and do justice to the words of Prince, you better have the talent to back it up and throughout Sinead O’Connor’s career, she has consistently shown that she does.

However, as soon as her cover of Rainy Night in Soho was done, she sauntered over to the couch and instantly felt the love of the room.

During her chat with Ryan Tubridy, O’Connor talked about her singing method, why she needed to take a few years out to focus on herself, and her happiness at going back out on the road again with a plethora of gigs lined up.

After hearing that her gigs in Vicar Street are sold out, the singer talked about what a big boost it was to her confidence and self-esteem to know that there’s still a massive demand from the Irish public to see her perform.

She also talked about her reversion to Islam, her selfless work as a companion for the dying, and how she still finds power from other religions like Christianity and Judaism.

As she said, “You plan on a matter of things and God does something different.” Thankfully, Sinead O’Connor is back doing what she does best and it’s a sight to behold because that voice is a gift from God.

A fascinating guest and a remarkable singer.

It’s great to see her performing and enjoying it.

Take a look as she dedicates a wonderful version of Nothing Compares 2 U to the song’s writer, the much-missed Prince.

Here’s her version of a classic by The Pogues, Rainy Night in Soho, which she’ll be performing at Féile at the request of Shane MacGowan.

After being reminded of her remarkable talent, plenty of Irish people were quick to praise one of the most remarkable singers that this country has ever produced.
