A spokesman for the band confirmed the news to Rolling Stone today.

U2 still plan to release their new album this year, despite rumours that it would be 2015 before a new LP appeared.

“We’ve always said an album is expected this year,” confirmed the spokesperson, with the group reported to have filmed a video for the first single from the album in France earlier this month.

Earlier this year, the band released a new single ‘Invisible’ and debuted it during the SuperBowl.

Despite playing the song during Jimmy Fallon’s first night as host of The Tonight Show, the song performed poorly and was believed at the time to have caused the album’s delay.

When the new album finally sees the light of day, it will have been the longest U2 have ever spent on a record. ‘No Line On The Horizon,’ released in 2009, was a commercial disappointment.
