VIDEO: Neil Hannon sang ‘My Lovely Horse’ at Electric Picnic and it’s just wonderful

No need for the sax solo

No need for the sax solo.

There are certain songs that seem to take on a life of their own in Irish culture. You know, those songs that people know every word of and will love forever.

‘Whiskey in the Jar’, ‘The Auld Triangle’ and ‘Maniac 2000’ are just a few that come to mind but ‘My Lovely Horse’ by Ted and Dougal almost tops them all.

It may have earned zero points at Eurovision 1996 but it will always have a place in our hearts.

Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy gave a surprise performance at Electric Picnic over the weekend and this version of an Irish classic went down a storm.

Take a look.
