A legend takes on a legend…
Billy Joel hit up the capital on Saturday night and wasted little time charming the locals who came to see him.
Taking to the stage at the Aviva Stadium, the legendary Piano Man paid tribute to Ireland in a most fitting way.
A short while into his set, and with a fading sun for company, Joel launched into a brief, thoughtful cover of ‘On Raglan Road’.
Originated by poet Patrick Kavanagh and arguably perfected by Luke Kelly of The Dubliners, the song continues to resonate with a special power and magic.
And so it was that Billy Joel would offer his own take in front of thousands of fans in Dublin.
By all accounts, it went down a storm…

Joel expressed his love and admiration for the beloved song to the crowd, noting that its unique cadence has inspired him in his own songwriting.
He also based out a version of famed Irish balled ‘Rising of the Moon’ for good measure.
Drake levels of appealing to the home crowd, fair play Billy.
Two Irish songs from Billy Joel tonight – Raglan Road and Rising o'the Moon – sweet!
