An explosive device discovered outside The Wright Venue near Dublin Airport was 'viable', Defence Forces have confirmed.
The device was discovered under a vehicle parked opposite the popular nightclub in the Airside Retail Park, Swords.
The Defence Forces were alerted by gardai at around 1.30am at which point a request for assistance was made.
Members of the Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit were dispatched, arriving at the scene at 3.15am and making the device safe by performing a controlled explosion.
Following the removal of the device, tests were carried out by the Disposal Unit and the Defence Forces were able to confirm that explosives had been detected and that the device was viable.
The Wright Venue opened in summer 2009. Earlier this year it was picked by 50 Cent as the location for his official aftershow party when he played live at Dublin's O2 Arena. It is also currently used as the setting for TV3's The Apprentice: You're Fired each week.
